Touria Barakat
Born in Marocco and raised in France, Touria started singing at young age. To her, music and especially singing means the ultimate way to communicate with other people by transferring emotion from heart to heart. Self taught, she started to sing blues and soul, and later on also jazz.
Big examples for her are (amongst others) Aretha Franklin, Sara Vaughan, Etta James, Chaka Khan and Cassandra Wilson. After playing with several bands, she started in 2002 the Touria Jazz Quartet with which she performed regularly in and around Avignon (France).
In 2004, she also performed with he Dutch Jazz Trio in the Netherlands. Apart from singing, she also arranges and composes, examples of which are recorded on her CD “Time is time” (2004). After she moved to Brussels in 2005, she performs regularly both with her new Touria Jazz Quartet and as a duo accompanied by piano, keyboards or contrabass.
